Summer To Do List

Is it sad that I love, love, love lists?!
So I couldn't pass up the chance to join the Summer To Do List Linky at

  1. My oldest daughter will be going to college, so we'll have lots to do to get her ready.  I think I'm going to need boxes and boxes of tissue, snif, snif.....

2.  Potty train my youngest, man oh man she's as stubborn as her mama ;)

3.  Go to the beach.  My girls love the beach, hmmm, maybe this will help encourage my lil' one with potty training.  I'm hoping to catch up on a lot of reading also.  I was able to squeeze in a couple of good books during the school year.  (Can't wait for "The Help" movie in August).

4.  Make lots of activities for my class.  I am so motivated by the many awesome teacher blogs out there.  I bought some units from TPT, but I'm going to have to spend a lot of time translating them in Spanish.

5.  Re do my Math stations.  I've had training in Math Their Way and Marcy Cook (love her activities), but I seriously need to differentiate my groups better.

6.  Rest, relax, and enjoy my time with my family.

Open House

Welcome to our Underwater Adventure!
Don't forget, Open House will be June 1st :)

Sea Animal Project

Our Kinder students will be required to do a Sea Animal Project.
This will include a written report, diorama, and an oral presentation.
I know it seems like a lot to do for 5 year olds,
but this has become a project that both parents and students enjoy.

Below you'll find an example of the English version.
Please note, it's slightly different than the Spanish version that is required by K3.
(Our due date is 5/27/11)

Insect Chant

For our Shared Reading piece last week, we used this poem that my friend and colleague, Mrs. Arce made
(sung to The Addams Family)

My students especially love the second half, Tararará...la cabeza :)

I usually chart poems so that everyone can see and then give each of my Kinders a copy to enjoy and put into their Poetry Journals.

Newfound Fun!

I have been so totally inspired by all the great teacher blogs.
Fortunately for my class I have been trying to make new activities for centers.
Unfortunately for my family, I'm probably spending a little too much time having fun :)

I've tried and tried to upload with Googledocs, and I'm successful for a bit, then it disappears, hence large white space below. I'd appreciate any suggestions ;)

(FYI...The following Spanish words have accent marks: salón and sílabas. I couldn't figure out how to add with the font I was using.)

Centers

These are the centers we worked on last week

We reviewed the letter Ññ.
Students made a circle map with pictures and words that started with Ññ.

Students made a flow map
1. seed  2.  roots  3. stem  4. plant

Students put a plant together and labeled the parts  of the plant.

Mixed up sentence strips were cut and then put back together
to form a sentence.  This one was tricky, we also reviewed the use of commas.

I'll probably start using a listening center format,
but my students do a pretty good job writing the title of the book on the front and...

writing a sentence on the back.

Spider-Man

My husband visited our classroom a couple of weeks ago. My kids thought it was the greatest thing ever to see him draw Spider-Man.

As you can see, Spidey now takes the place of our Happy Face. My students wouldn't let me erase him. I know, I know, I'm the teacher, but hey, it is my hubby's art :)
